ok when talking bout networks leave off the last three numbers
so network a is 192.168.1.0/24 and network b (ics) is network 192.168.0.0/24
/24 = 255.255.255.0 easier way to write and how it is put in bigger routers
in the above scenario
NETWORK a 192.168.1.0/24 the home 1st router normally gets 192.168.1.1 and that ip address "becomes" the default gateway because it is the gateway of last resort, you could asign it ant valid ip in the range .1 to .254
then the laptop picks up 192.168.1.100/24 on its one side
now you setup up ICS on the "other wireless or ethernet port, the process repeats itself, so it get assigned a network of 192.168.0.0/24
so the default setting for that port is 192.168.0.1/24
remember these homeowner routers are using wizards and the like, a bigger one is bare and need all the info installed by hand
the gatewat of last resort commonly called default gateway is when you make a request to lets say go to rookie dot com, dns resolves the "freindly" name to an ip address, then all request that are not local ir 192.168.0.0/24 go to the "gatway to be process by the next network and so on, if that netork is not "local" to the ip then it keep getting forwarded till it get there or times out.
so having a router with the same "network" on both sides won't work
192.1
