Countryrose, that's because it's a paypal "subscription" that automatically renews at each anniversary of the subscription.
When you sign up for VIP, you have the option to "donate" (1-time fee) or "subscribe" auto-renewing.
Unfortunately, PayPal does not send out notifications prior to renewing a subscription.
