Angry 700 Newbie HELP!

I am so frustrated because I nothing seems to work right.
I have two new 700s and I tried to load the bin via usb, but my receiver doesn't ask anything about rebooting or anything close to the directions indicate.
I select the bin file and nothing happens... no error..nothing
Something did come up titled "Captive Works CX database v1.00 Sdx" but that just seems to run something and end with a successful but after that nothin!
No patch indicator, no nothing.

DO I need to have the right coordinates for it to work? If so, how do I find the right coordinates for my location? I bought a sat finder and I get a strong signal, but when I look at my screen, my strength is 78 and my quality is 0

I know I am whining like a baby, but this ish is not working! What am I doing wrong? Please help me get something.

Sirwinston, stay cool man, everything is happening for a reason...first of all, you say you have 2 CW 700, if both of them are failing...what am I missing here ?...I have the feeling that this is an operator error...could you give more details?...the message you get I never got when I loaded my friend's CW 700...did you follow the loading procedure as described in the sticky for CW 700 ?...as to the fact that you have strength 78 and quality 0, strength refers to the signal between the receiver and the LNB, whereas quality is referring to the signal received by the dish from the satellite. Loading up the new bin has nothing to do with the signal quality 0 or your location coordinates. Quality 0 may be caused by a number of reasons...did you set correctly the type of your LNB in the Antenna setting, are you using a DiseqC, did you check to see if the line of sight of your dish is aiming correctly to the bird(s) you scan, or is it free from any interference from trees, neighbours roof or anything else?

Cheers,

Thanks for your reply I am quite sure its me. I have hooked everything up and turned on the box. I then followed the posted instructions for the USB by loading the bin file on a flashdrive and then went to load it from the USB screen and when I clicked OK nothing happened. Then there was this SDX file and that sent the machine into loading some data. After rebooting...nothing. I don't have any channels but I'm not sure if I am picking up 110 or 119. How do I even align the dish without coordinates? I guess I am just really confused after I thought I read and spent a few hundred bucks. Thanks for the calming tone.

Don't worry about the bucks, you spent them well, CW700 is an awsome receiver and very simple to work with...reading, that you will have to be patient and do (a lot) if you want to understand the basics of this hobby, the rest falls in place and makes sense as you read...I've been doing this for a few years and I am still reading posts here and learn...don't worry, we all have been beginners and maybe we still are...lol.
If you want a little advice: don't jump on your poor receivers and start loading file after file until everything gets messed up.
Read carefully the related material; in the File section of the CW...I have the feeling that you make a mistake when you load the bin....I never saw that weird file that is loading by itself ...even if it's successfully...you must have pressed the wrong button somewhere...

Cheers,

I'll tell you what I do to load the bin:
- unzip the 1.60 (latest) zip file, you can find it in the CW700 file section here
( I always get the files at this site, which I very much trust)
- load the bin file onto the USB stick
- turn the receiver on
- plug the USB in the receiver
- you get the message" USB ready"
- press USB button on the remote
- press right arrow on the remote and go to the "software" tab
- scroll down to the bin you want to load
- press OK button
- follow instructions on the screen
- when asked if you want to reboot, press yes
- wait the receiver to reboot
- go to "Menu" and do the factory default after the receiver rebooted. Then reboot again from the rear switch. When it comes back up again, you can setup satellites and options and rescan all satellites. After this is done, press F1 and 000 (zero not "o"), to enable patch. Wait until the receiver autorolls the keys, it may take up to 10-15 min., be patient and let it do its job. Watch TV

Cheers,

"Hard reboot" or "reboot from the back switch" is (if you don't know yet):
don't turn receiver off from the remote, but turn off the back power switch, wait at least 30 seconds and turn on.

Cheers,

Thanks for your words again... I figured out that I neglected to unzip the bin. The patch worked smoothly and I am now going to try to find the bird coordinates. It was a big user error!
