Question Sub forums link?

I don't know if this has been suggested before...

When viewing the home page (seeing all available forums of DSS Rookie) and seeing the different sections of the forum like FTA, FTA Conversion Area, Dishnet, DTV, etc., it used to be that you could click the link at the top of that section, and it would take you to a new page with ONLY the sub-forums for that section listed. This would facilitate searching in ONLY those sections, and not having to search the entire site (using the quick search link at the top of the forum page). Also, that section could be set as a member's "home page", so when we log on, we would first see the section relevant to our particular area of interest, and not the entire main page.

As it stands now, there IS a link at the top of those sections, but all it does is bring that section to the top of your screen, but still staying on the main page.

Any chance of changing it to opening in a new page, with ONLY that particular section showing?

And/or... could a "quick search" button be placed on the header for each section on the main page, to facilitate searching ONLY that section?

If you want your receiver section to be your home page where you sign in, just save that page as your homepage or a bookmark and thats where you will go when logging on.

There is a search feature at the top of each forum that allows you to search files in that forum. Its labelled "Search this Forum"

If you want to open any page in a new window, you could right click on the link and select to open in a new window/tab

Thanks for looking at this Gary, but I think you missed my point...

Go to the home page for Rookie.

Click the link in the header above a given section ( DISHNET (Echosta or DirecTV Center, for example).

All it does is stay on the home page, and moves that section to the top of your screen. It does NOT take you to a new page with only the DISHNET/ECHOSTAR section visible, nor does it have a search function in that header, for that section. I tested this by (using Firefox) right-clicking on the header, and selecting "open link in new tab". It opens the entire homepage of Rookie in a new tab, and not simply the DISHNET section.

You see, I would have to specify a specific subforum in the DISHNET section to set as my homepage. I can't set the entire DISHNET section as my homepage. (I don't do FTA...)

I see your point, but I think the functionality changed with the latest vBulletin 3.8.2.

What you are talking about was still present in 3.5.0 which is what we ran previously.

OK... so you understand what I'm getting at.

I didn't think I was imagining things, and that it was something we had before, then lost.

Given the recent upgrades, I can live without that functionality. The site just keeps getting better and better!

THANKS, FALCON!!!

Freedom, here's something interesting that the NEW vBulletin does that the old one did NOT!

If you collapse a forum headers (like DirecTV, FTA Forums, etc.) by clicking on the collapse/expand icon on the right of that category, it remains collapsed when you log back in, thereby showing only those categories of forums you're looking for.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

WAAAaaayyy ahead of ya, Falcon!

Started using that right after you upgraded the board, though it can be a bit fussy with cookies (especially in Firefox, since I have it clamped down pretty tight).

When it does what it should, it's a pretty nice feature!
