192.168.0.1

and it will pass out many other address with that scheme, say up put in a 24 port switch and plugged in 23 things thay would all get ip etc directly from the WIN 2000 computer, u can even enable NAT behind this too. ports, UDP/TCP settings it is powerful in its own right, use this type of setup when router where very expensive, 2 ehternet cards and it was the landing zone ..
Then what happens when the gateway he is getting his wireless from has an IP of 192,168.0.1. There would be an IP conflict there.

Also just fyi, unless things have changed, the OP is not in control of the router he is getting signal from incase that helps you..

okay u guys r getting way ahead of me now!! Lol. One laptop in the house. the ip on the computer is 192.168.1.100, on the Kbox it show no numbers @ the end like this 192.168.0.0 So firstly should i try a regular cable? or not the issue? also on kbox i will use DHCP not static correct? I would show you in detail what i have but not sure if any parts are private and shouldn't be shared, sorry no very little about computers. So just ot recap hit the internet share tab for LAN connection and shared tab for current internet connection. Is there order of operation between the two? Is there any importance for example to click the tab (internet sharing) to internet connection line first then do LAN line or vice versa? perhaps all i need is a step by step run through, but must be clear?

Gary, we agree on that you can't route 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.0, it really won't be an IP conflict as they are divided by the ICS(router) it is a network issue

scott ..

yes i would try the regular cable .
DHCP

did the "setup" of ICS go ok no error messages correct ?

you also have completed ALL the setup steps of the KBOX, 3 file etc, changes to network ..

gary brought up an interesting point i amy have missed .. where is the router?
what is the router ?
or is this a 3G card ?

ahh, you know since this is Win 2000 you may also try to reboot the laptop and then turn on the kbox with the regular cable,

Sump,

He says his IP on the pc is 192.168.1.100 so would that not be his gateway when using ICS ? Or does ICS "convert" that to the default IP that ICS uses ?

Also since he is not in control of the router, he has no control over getting that same IP every time.

you have also a switch that go,s from one in two so if you have one plug for your internet and then it split to two so you can put two cable,s in one

ok when talking bout networks leave off the last three numbers

so network a is 192.168.1.0/24 and network b (ics) is network 192.168.0.0/24

/24 = 255.255.255.0 easier way to write and how it is put in bigger routers

in the above scenario
NETWORK a 192.168.1.0/24 the home 1st router normally gets 192.168.1.1 and that ip address "becomes" the default gateway because it is the gateway of last resort, you could asign it ant valid ip in the range .1 to .254

then the laptop picks up 192.168.1.100/24 on its one side

now you setup up ICS on the "other wireless or ethernet port, the process repeats itself, so it get assigned a network of 192.168.0.0/24

so the default setting for that port is 192.168.0.1/24

remember these homeowner routers are using wizards and the like, a bigger one is bare and need all the info installed by hand

the gatewat of last resort commonly called default gateway is when you make a request to lets say go to rookie dot com, dns resolves the "freindly" name to an ip address, then all request that are not local ir 192.168.0.0/24 go to the "gatway to be process by the next network and so on, if that netork is not "local" to the ip then it keep getting forwarded till it get there or times out.

so having a router with the same "network" on both sides won't work

192.1

guys thanks for the info. I will take small steps @ this as I don't really know what I am doing. The KBox is setup correctly as days before I had another Laptop and worked great, but it had windows XP so it was easy. I will try regular cable first to see if that works I will report back when that is done. U guys start talking IP address info. I get a little lost. I will point out I don't get the error message now when I click internet sharing. I renamed my one connection that gets internet to "internet Connection".
