I know there are boxes out there with more capabilities and features. Here's where I'm going with this. Since I purchased a cnx for the capability of recording movies I have a 500G external hd. I have recently downloaded about 120G of music. I don't have any problems playing them on my desktop but would like to know if there's a receiver that would allow me to play the music off the hd? I would like to use it like a juke box over my surround sound.

can I download a program onto the HD so that the cnx can read it? I use itunes on my desktop to play my music. I would be more than happy if I can get the cnx to do this but would buy something else if it were possible.

I've read that boxes such as dreambox have unlimited capabilities.

If your music were mp3 files, there are a lot of receivers that will play them. (cw 700, cw 800, pansat 4500, neusat 6000 etc.) Most boxes that have the usb port. Since they are in the itunes format, none will work. That is a proprietary format and they would have to pay royalties to apple to use them. That is what is wrong with itunes and also the itunes program keeps track of all your songs and where they came from for big brother.
