Aiming my dish with satfinder

I am trying to aim a Direct tv dish with a universal lnb i got from a friend. I am using a sf90c satfinder. The instructions say to turn the knob all the way up until I hear the tone and the meter should read between 5 & 6. when I turn the knob all the way up, I get the tone however the meter reads full scale. if i turn the knob down until the tone just goes off, the needle reads 1. I can't seem to get the meter needle to read between 5 & 6, only 1 or full scale. am I doing something wrong?

Set the meter at 50% scale and tweak the dish until you hear the squeal get louder then turn it back to 50% and keep repeating that until you can't get the squeal any louder.

This might help. Dish Aiming Instructions for Installers Meter Kit & Satellite Finders

you said yopur aimimng a DTV dish with a univirsal LNB , that LNB is for Linier sat and you will need a 30 inch dish or bigger to get anything .If it's a regular DTV LNB then do what was said above and it will work
