uplink activity for the week of 4-11-2006 echostar 10 startup

i have compiled some info on the echostar 10 startup. this is c/p
info...thanks goes to others.

ECHOSTAR 10 Moving To 110W Orbit
Back on Feb 15, 2006 Dish Network launched Echostar x (10) into orbit at location 126.5W were dish network completed it’s testing of the new bird. As of last week Echostar 10 has been moving 2.2 degrees a day toget to its finial destination of 110W. With it nearing its finial parking spot at 110W there has been channels disappearing for some. Echostar 10 was scheduled for activation first week of April and be fully functional by mid April by dish network. With this upgrade we will see a lot of channels being moved around. In most case auto TP on the Viewsat will pick this up as may auto tp on the Coolsat and other FTA’s with the auto tp feature.
Most definitely a fresh scan of your birds will always insure you have the most recent channels. It also appears that some channels went to key01 which hasn’t been used by DN since being put into the stream over a month ago.

Note that the first spotbeams on E10 to be lit up are replacements for the ConUS transponder 12. I've attached a picture of all the spotbeams across the US where E10 uses transponder 12.

At the moment ONE transponder has been turned off on E6/E8 to allow the E10 spots on TP12 to become active. There will be more ConUS transponders turned off to allow further use of E10. When (if) they start turning off spotbeams on E8 it will save some more power, however E8 will have to take over completely for E6 before E10 can be fully used.

TPs 12,18,20,23,25,26,27,29,31 will be put into spot beam service for E10

Tp 18 and TP 20 are set to be converted because they only have local channels on them right now anyways.

TP16 has all local channels but is not designated to go spot, so the contents of that TP will probably be swaped with another TP

Anyone who KNOWS the master plan that phases out some or all of the rented bandwidth at 105 and/or 121, please let us know!

Well, I don't "KNOW" the master plan but the Ku-band bandwidth at 121 is an asset--it is not leased. The Ku-band bandwidth at 105 is leased. I maintain my earlier assertion that SuperDiSH 121 shall remain for the indefinite future for international packages. DiSH has a *major* competitive advantage with its international packages from 121. They have more channels than Globecast and several times more than DirecTV.

What is due to move tonight? Anyone? Also, what was on Tr # 12 before it went spot and where did it go?

To answer the question, if Dish keeps to the schedule tonight some or all of the channels from the following cities will move:
Flint from 121 to 110
Detroit from 110 (E*8)/61.5 to 110 (Only a few channels from this market)

Code:
Grand Rapids from 119 to 110
Duluth from 110 (E*8) to 110 (E*10)
Houston 119/148 to 110
Joplin from 105 to 110
Philidelphia from 110 (E*8)/61.5 to 110 (E*10)
Yakima from 110 (E*8) to 110 (E*10)

No moves planned tomorrow night.

Planned for Thursday:

Albany, GA
Boise
Bakersfield
Baltimore
Burlington
Charleston
Cedar Rapids
Evansville
Florence
Ft. Meyers
Greensboro/Winston-Salem
Harrisburg
Lexington
Louisville
Madison
Milwaukee
Oaklahoma City
Panama City
Paducah
Roanoke/Lynchburg
San Juan
Tallahassee
Traverse City
Washington

Next Tuesday

Austin
Baltimore (one or two remaning channels)
Cincinnati
Gainesville
Jacksonville
Green Bay
Honolulu
La Crosse
Louisville
Monterey
Nashville
New Orleans
Salt Lake City
Santa Barbara
San Antonio

A week from Thursday
Atlanta
Augusta, GA
Baton Rouge
Charlotte
Chico
Columbus, MS
Detroit (Most of the channels)
Flint (The remaining channels)
Ft. Wayne
Indianapolis
Jackson
Lansing
Little Rock
Macon
Memphis
Sacramento
San Francisco
Terre Haute
Toledo
Tri-Cities (Bristol)
I will mention that E6 will be going silent (eventually) due to E10's arrival and use at 110°. E6 is an old satellite that wasn't designed to have several uplink centers shooting at it on the same transponder. It's a one for one deal. Every transponder kept active on E6 is an uplink from each center that cannot be used for spots.

If the last two digits are 32 or less, that’s the standard transponder number and the beam is ConUS. 40-99 indicates a spot beam, and the last digit matches the last digit of the transponder number as stated previously. Whether the next-to-last digit indicates an uplink frequency or is randomly assigned, I don’t know.

The first digit indicates the orbital position:

0 – 119 (actually just two-digit numbers)
1 – 61.5
2 – 110 (3 digits for E6/E8, 4 digits for E10)
3 – 148
4 – 129 (?? -- none of these are in the chart)
5 – 121
6 – 105

When the unique ids are decoded and the chart is sorted by transponder and beam number, the following schedule emerges:

April 10-11: all moves to tp12 except Denver
April 13: all moves to tp25, all moves to tp4 east of Mississippi R
April 17: all moves to tp23 plus start San Antonio HD on tp25
April 19: most but not all moves to tp18, tp20, and tp26
May 5: everything else

But the chart is incomplete in that it only lists moves to E10 and not any of the E7 and E8 shuffling that will obviously have to go along with it. For instance, Hartford isn't on the list to move to E10, so the Hartford channels now on 4s13 may move to 6s13, possibly even tonight. Or they could go back to 119, but then why mess with the Dish300 customers' heads for the past month?

It’s also hard to believe the engineers will just sit on their hands from April 19 to May 5, so I expect there may be quite a bit of activity beyond just what’s on the chart, even on E10.

this info attained and compiled from ebs talk

4/19/06 c/p thanks goes to ekb and dbs talk
  • The Showtime free preview channels which have been hidden for a few weeks (284-299) have been replaced with Starz/Encore free preview channels. These are mirrors of Staz, Starz West, Edge, Cinema, Cinema West, Kids & Family and Encore. (ANON)
  • Sky Angel channels Spirit, 3ABN and Golden Eagle Broadcasting (9706, 9710 and 9715) have been returned to the line-up on tp 32 at 61.5°, though they are currently listed as "Off air". There is no programming yet on these channels. (ANON) These channels were lost with the temporary fix of transponder 32 at 61.5° this weekend. Dish Network and Sky Angel are working to get this resolved as soon as possible.
  • Test channel 9949 moved from tp 10 at 61.5° to tp 11 at 119°. (ANON) This channel was showing the pentagon channel FTA to MPEG2 receivers (not Dish Network Receivers). Unknown the current content and FTA status.
  • Ary One World (651), Ary QTV (662) and Ary Muzik (663) became available to subscribers at 61.5° and 148° today. (ANON) Package information is unavailable at the moment.
  • Presumably in preparation for tonight's moves to spot beams,
    • WSOC and WCCB (8650 & 8653) moved from tp 18 at 110° back to the "home" tp 5 spot 14 at 119°. (ANON)
    • WTVD and WRAZ (8750 & 8753) moved from tp 18 at 110° back to the "home" tp 7 spot 14 at 119° (ANON)
NOTE: I am receiving reports that these channel remain uplinked to tp 18 at 110° as well as the "new" location. The same holds true for many if not all of the channels recently moved from the "SuperDish" locations. This list essentially tracks the channels "in the system". These phantom channels will not be listed in this chart for the following reasons:
1) They are not anywhere in the system tables. This is the information from the satellite that tells Dish receivers where to get the channel when you punch in a channel number.
2) The channels will be removed eventually or at least not returned to active status.
3) This list is designed to show legitimate subscribers where channels are in the sky and what is on tap.
A reminder that the info received is 99% from legitimate Dish Network subscribers or FTA geeks with info readers who are reading the FTA system tables on the Dish Network satellites and not hacking Dish for "free" channels. Though I will not post this info, I am happy to receive any news and reports I can get. Thank you all who have contributed!

* OLN NEWS!!! Reported by Anyon that there is a slate on channel 151 that states: ""Get ready to spend a little more time indoors... Outdoor Life Network is coming back to DISH Network channel 151! Look to enjoy this year's NHL Playoffs on OLN starting this Saturday the 22nd!"
Interestingly enough, this channel is no longer FTA to MPEG 2 (Non-Dish Network receivers) as of about 11 PM
* To make room for the new spot beams on transponder 26 at 110°, the following channels have been removed: Sparky (257) a Dish Network engineering channel, ETC3 (9983) another "Engineering Test Channel", "Sport" channels 462-464 and Commercial Sport channels 9800 and 9801.
* Jackson MS local channels (9270-9276), significantly viewed mirrors (6217-6221) and WMAW (9303) which in reality is a mirror of WMPN Jackson for the Meridian MS market have all moved from transponders 18 and 20 at 110° (E*8) to transponder 26 spot 11 at 110° (E*8)

* All Little Rock local channels (9350-9359) moved from tp 20 at 110° (E*8) to tp 18 spot 15 at 110° (E*10)
* Sports Time Ohio (431) returned to tp 24 at 110° (ANON)
* All Indianapolis local channels and significantly viewed mirrors for Terre Haute moved to tp 18 spot 13 at 110° from (6208, 6209, 8450-8456 and 8462) tp 7 spot 11 at 119°, (8457 & 8460) tp 30 at 61.5° (ANON) At the same time mirrors of WRTV, WISH, WTHR and WXIN were removed from 9828-9831 at 119°
* Fort Wayne locals (7435-7442) moved from tp 8 at 121° to tp 20 spot 13 at 110°. However channels 7438-7442 were returned to 121° due to technical issues. (ANON) It is reported that these channels are still at 110° as well, but legitimate Dish recovers will be picking them up from 121° only.
* Lansing MI locals (7510-7516) moved from tp 2 at 121° to tp 20 a 13 at 110° (ANON)
* Flint MI local ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox (7530-7533) moved from tp 10 at 121° to tp 20 spot 13 at 110° (ANON) The rest of the Flint locals moved here last week. Also WNEM and WEYI mirrors (9845 & 9846) were removed from 121°
* Bristol/Tri Cities (7615-7622) moved from tp 2 at 105° to tp 18 spot 6 at 110° (ANON)
* Augusta, GA locals (7700-7703 & 7707) moved from tp 23 at 105° to tp 20 spot 6 at 110°. WCES (7706) remains at 119° since this channel is, in reality, a mirror of WGTV Atlanta.

* Detroit MI locals (8030-8035) moved from tp 10 spot 10 at 110° (E*8) to tp 26 spot 13 at 110° (E*10). (ANON) Channels 8036 and 8037 moved to tp 12 spot 13 last week.
* San Francisco locals (8220-8227) moved from tp 7 spot 4 at 119° to tp 26 spot 43 at 110° (ANON). The rest of SF locals remain in their old slots at this time. Also KGO, KPIX, KNTV and KTVU mirrors at 9808-9811 were removed from the system.
* All Sacramento locals moved to tp 20 spot 43 (E*10) from (8630-8636) tp 8 spot 2 (E*8) and (8638, 8640 & 8642) tp 6 at 148°. At the same time mirrors of channels 8638, 8640 and 8642 at 129° were removed from the system (ANON)
