selective ecm's?

i saw a thread at a brand-x site discussing the reason why some stb's (cnx, etc.) have survived the last several ecm's while the major players have gone down. a couple of posters were adamant that dn had the ability to target select brands of stb's with specific ecm's. i've always thought an stb survived an ecm because the latest bin included a wider portion of an "emu" type file. would like to hear some more enlightened views on the subject.

All ECM's must be done with digital code in the stream. The code may attack certain areas of the code for video encryption. If the particular STB has that code in it then it will go down. It is not necessarily targeting a specific STB.

The same thing happenms when they attack plastic and send down a loop ECM. They are looking for a certain code on the card that is not on a sub and bang out you go to looped de loo land.

They must also be extremely careful that they don't attack the subs in the process.

So the closer a STB can simulate a sub the better chance of survival.
