I for one don't believe that there are so few coders......I believe that there are teams of coders that work for the manufacturers, but speak and post as if they are one person!.....Just my opinion!!.......*Ben*

well if they tell u to flock over n get new hardware what r u goin to think?? well i for one would think that its just a sales ploy n they havent figured out anything they just want to get rid of their inventory.. n thats why they said that dont buy it until u c the fix n besides once the fix comes out the prices of FTA r goin to shoot through the roof so u c its a win win situation for them..

And not to mention, why bother? With a couple of small exceptions, they have the same programming so there is no incentive to break Dave at this point with FTA. It's not as if a huge new group of people would start buying STBs if an FTA Dave solution was found.

I concur with the others as well. The original post of this thread was excellent.

My thoughts

There all in bed together, If sales are falling on one set of recievers, the others back off till they catch up and inturn get a certain cut back, we all no whos sales are gonna sky rocket when ever the fix is realeased first.
But somthing ive been pondering, not saying that it is so, hell i cant even decode the simpliest of things, but dont you all think that if these coders are smart enough to decode what ever DN does, that they are smart enough to put codes in the bins to shut down these boxes at a certain time or date just to boost sales, remember now FTA sales are probably at an all time low now, sure u might find a few being sold every month but not in any great volume, and its time for new models to be released, it all just sames fishy to me, i mean when DN changed over from N1 to N2, that was it, FTA was dead, sell your boxes, there no more good, they cant decode the the ecm by DN yet with in days, back up and running again, i mean just look at what blacklist can do with his bins, u got a genuine pansat, load it and watch tv but if its a clone, load it and get your j-tag out or watch the pretty little green lights forever, then someone else takes blacklist bin and removes the kill and the clones are fine again, just sames fishy to me, if you watch the NEWS any, which is somthing i always do, i would think that this was a big enough victory for DN to be celebrating, but nuttin there either, maybe its not DN. And ALWAYS remember, its a money game. Dam that wasnt even my 2cents, that was more like a dollar And just one more thing to ponder, if back in the days of Civil Wars, and world wars people coulde decode beeps from a morse code, think of the possibilitied of decodeing today

I'm relatively new to this FTA thing, and I understand what you're all saying, but while the manufacturers have a monetary interest in keeping these things working, doesn't DN have an interesting in finding a system that keep them shut out?

And as far as I understand, while manufacturing/selling FTAs is not an illegal activity, hacking into DN programming IS. How much does that factor in to all this?

These units aren't useless, They all work equally well for what they are meant for. Free to air satalite viewing. It may be a little harder to set up because the signals aren't as strong, but there is a growing amount of channels in the true free to air line up. ABC, NBC ets, fox movies, nascar in car camera's. In fact, if more people started using them for what they are meant for you would see more program providers move to free to air as they have in Europe. There may be commercials but the quality is great. The maker's of the stb's may find it better to start selling 8' dish kits with c-band and ku-band lnb's. Peace.
