I don't know the laws good enough but the reason I was interested is because I have an uncle that says the same thing.
He gave an example of using CB radio's and scanners.
To send a signal on them you have a license but you can receive signals on them all you want to.

Difference in Satellite signals and CB is that sat signals are encrypted and are intended ONLY for reception by paying customers. The Ham radio and CB frequencies are governed under different statutes assigned to that range of frequencies by the F.C.C.

I think one of the other posters hit on the reason you couldn't use this defense...you are decrypting the signal. That decryption process is copyrighted by DN and thus belongs to them.

If I'm your neighbor and I'm playing some Eagles Hotel California really loud....so loud that the sound or sound waves in this case are spilling over to your house and property...how do you handle that? Does that sound then belong to you? Where do you draw the line?

Exactly SS! It's not your right to recieve the signals it's the illegal decryption that will get you. Obviously, you can recieve true FTA sats with no problems but just because the providers are bombarding your house does not give you the right to break copyright and other laws. If only the law was that simple there wouldn't be any attorneys.

And below this was(but I could not paste it here...for unknown reason...) a diagram showing the owner's property domain...to the center of the earth...and extending infinitely into the sky...or heavens as reads below.
I have placed a NON LINK link just below the #1 definition, which will if you properly copy and paste it into your browser will open a window for you to see the legal diagram showing one's legal property.
If people intentionally keep tossing their possessions into your yard...you can keep them legally.
I see no question regarding this...and do not agree with anyone who tries to claim I am a pirate for using in my own way what has entered my property...And this stands up in a good court of law.
If a satellite company doesn't want me to use their signals...they should make darned sure they don't trespass my property. Once they send it to my property...it legally becomes mine...my legal property.

So you are saying that if you decrypt a signal on your own you are stealing

We both know that when you decrypt a signal intended for paying customers like D/N's signal, without their permission that we are stealing...... Same as when you climb a pole (on your property) and hook yourself to cable without paying, rig your electric or water meter to show less than actually used it is "Theft of services" or it is here in the states anyway........ I know from experience.
