It has begun. Echostar is now figting back in a similar way as DTV did, and these letters will most likely be more prevalent now as Echostar fights to combat their piracy problems.

This letter was sent to someone that purchased a Captive Works FTA unit.

If you receive one of these letters, DO NOT provide them any information whatsoever. In most cases it's best to never even call them. Deny, deny, deny...
Never tip your hand if you receive one of these letters.
If they want to charge you then they have to prove every element of their case and any acknowledgment from you of the letter in any fashion will be spun by them as a sign of your guilt.
At the last words of the letter "please have your account number available".
I guess they assume that you also are a subscriber and that you're going to make it really easy on them to find you!

If you purchased an FTA box how in the HELL would they know what you used it for? I can't believe DN would EVER send out such a letter. CaptiveWorks should SUE them. That's like my buying a car and someone trys to sue the car maker because it was the getaway car in an armed robbery.

and shop was selling test gear and or?? like we say they have to prove it on you.. not you prove you did not do..

Last I heard we were still innocent until proven otherwise. I went this route with Dave and never flinched. I would not even acknowlege reciept of such correspondence. I noticed the letterhead.. it di not include the addy or other information... could be a spoof.

This is indeed from the S.I. office. Part of the letter was cut off with the actual S.I. officers name as well as the respondent. This IS NOT a forgery. There will be more circulating soon. It's basically a "fish" letter trying to get people to admit something. The best recourse is to not answer it or call the number..

my thoughts on this is we need to be concerned..not for the people who have been around the block but for the newer people.. like Dave did with the your going to jail for 10 yrs and fines of 100,000$ but if you cop to it and give up your gear and give us 5000$ and a sub.. we will not take you to court.. and Dave got tons of peeps falling for it.. some I'm sure they had info on.. but not all and people said yes its me and paid.. people taking down there antennas running freaked out... may be even call them.. bet your *** they ask the old saying ( turn in 3 and you go free ) and again people will to cover there buts.. and the dish net ball gets rolling and the P R hits the news and the ball gets going faster and faster more head line news. people selling there stuff.. turning them selfs in.. trash can ther stuff. and who knows what..when all and all.. what do they have???? i own a viewsat coolsat captiveworks and so on.. as of now i have not heard of any laws saying i can not buy a free to air unit.. so what law are we braking??? we just need to educate the newer and or paranoid peeps.. and this forum has seen a few now havent we..
