In Canada you can be sued by anybody for anything and you have to pay the price. Guilty or not. As far as compensation to the injured party. Again , good luck , the party with the deepest pockets (best lawyers) wins. |

Hello again, as a person somewhat familiar with the Canadian judicial system I feel compelled to relieve you of some fear caused by myths or speculation.
It's true that becoming "caught up" in legal ramblings can be very expensive and often, because the provincial purse is bigger than your wallet, you can find yourself poor and disappointed. This does happen when you have two dedicated litigants battling over an issue both find important, like bitter divorces, a guy trying to beat drug trafficking charges, a street racer trying to get his car back against the cop he ticked off, etc but we digress. The interests of corporations to capture profit are not recognized as particularly important by judges. A law enforcement agency asked to look at records because of a suspected pedophile responds quickly and have the support of just about every other living human being they come across. Lawyers, judges, internet providers, etc.. all included. All of whom recognize this abhorrent activity as fundamentally wrong. Satellite signals do not get this reaction. You can be charged and if a judge sees it as trivial they will throw it out. More likely, the judge will look at his docket for cases for that day, see wife abusers, child abusers, assaults of all kinds, car thieves, bank robberies, rapes, murders, drug trafficking, do you see what I mean? The guy with a satellite on his back porch and some provider yelling "shame on you!" will be pushed down to the bottom of that list day after day until it goes away. Let's not get paranoid over an issue that has exaggerated importance to it's user. It isn't Orwell's 1984, we don't live in a police state. Relax. |

Hi Wizit, I'm not sure I know exactly which letter you're referring to. As far as fighting for our rights, FTA is a form of civil disobedience. Gandhi said it was our duty as citizens to protest the laws we disagree with, and these forums and our efforts in other areas of the web site make him proud.
Consider this hypothetical: If a major bank had its executives go to the roof of one of their buildings and empty a bag of money in to the wind, and then called the police to say they wanted everyone who picked up a few dollars to be charged with a crime, they would be laughed out of the courtroom. Why did they empty the bag? Because each bill was stamped with the name of the bank and the bank wanted to save money on the delivery method to their customer. They also thought it would be a good promotional tool. But after realizing some of the people would never become good customers, they decided to criminalize the act of picking up a dollar bill that fell from the sky in to your yard. With all of the commercials on regular television and product placement in everything else, the programs have been paid for many times over. |

Ma **** and Rogers teamed up to outlaw people getting american subscriptions, so if I dicide to get D*h channels (FTA or otherwise), it should be none of their concern.
