New High Powered Satellite to Support Growing Demand For Direct-to-Home
TV Services in North America

OTTAWA, Aug. 17 /CNW/ - =

"Telesat, the world's fourth largest fixed satellite services operator,
announced today that its new ***** 5 satellite is scheduled to launch
on an ILS Proton vehicle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan
on September 18, 2009 (September 17th in Ottawa).

***** 5 will utilize 32 high powered Ku-band transponders and the latest
in satellite technology to deliver a wide range of high-definition and
direct-to-home television services across a broad footprint covering Canada
and the United States. Based on Space Systems/ Loral's proven 1300 platform,
***** 5 has a planned 15-year mission life and will operate in geostationary
orbit from 72.7 degrees West.

The capacity on ***** 5 is fully pre-sold and the satellite is expected
to commence service prior to the end of the fourth quarter of this year

The new Satellite will be half *** HD Content, Half Charlie HD content. They're boosting capacity so they can enter a whole new era of rate hikes!

Burn their houses down and whizz on the ashes, I say. They're all a bunch of profiteering bastards.

I guess this means that if you want HD you will have to install another lnb on your dish. I should be all set, my dish has one extra slot in the lnb holder!

Now, I just have one more insurmountable problem - N3!

As the eternal optomist and always looking for a silver lining associated with this N-3 setback I am pleased to see that here in Costa Rica big dishes are hitting the market at a considerable discount of what they cost new. 8 to 10 foot dishes that originally were bought for $1300 to $2000 are now sporatically hitting the market for a fraction of that.
Until better times they make great rain water collectors.
