I think its Internet Providers Address which identifies your computer to the cyber world.

Its actually Internet Protocol. But you're description was dead on...its the number that uniquely identifies you to the world wide web.

On a side not ISP is Internet Service Provider.

Yes if you're running DHCP where you get a new i.p when you power down your computer....simply power it down. When you turn it back on you should have grabbed a new i.p. If not you can also open a DOS command window and type ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew. That will also grab you a new i.p.

George Orwell was only off by 25 years with the novel 1984. the beginning of the violation of our rights and invasion of our privacies was 2001 with the Patriot act. our rights are being slowly stripped away piece by piece in the name of protection. we are not far from having big brother looking over our shoulder at our every action, and anything we do that he disagrees with being a punishable offense. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

There was a quote from Star Trek The Next Generation that says it all...
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

Well not to get too far off track from what the o.p posted....you can release and renew the i.p from inside the router. Look for your DHCP lease page and renew it there. You cannot effectively "mask" your i.p. with any program or proxies....it just isn't effective...sorry. If you have other questions on the security of your internet connection when running a router or even without...open a separate thread and I or someone else will gladly answer all your questions....that way others can benefit from the answers you get.
