I want to get tru fta, is it possible to get that with my dish 500?? what do I need? I was reading some of the posts on the forums, which helped a little, but still need a little more insight on it. Maybe this will help

Your reciever will work with most all types of LNB's.You have a circular LNB. That LNB picks up satellites such as commercial service providers like dishnet, direct ect ect. There are a few channels available on 119W like ION and NASA but thats about it. Other satellites in this category just seem to have pay per view advertisment channels for free or an info channel about their latest DVR or reciever. What you want to get is a linear or KU band LNB. This will give you alot more free channels on the KU band satellites. Again not alot of good stuff but I do currently get history channel and biography channel. There is also the RTV network that plays old tv shows. The free channels on KU band are spread out over many satellites and will require a dish with a motor to move from sat to sat. 36" dish or larger is recommended. Currently I use a 36" dish with an invacom LNB. Invacom is a brand name and their LNB has both Linear KU band and Circular in one unit. Highly recommend this LNB and most other people do as well. Last type of free channels are located on C-band not the same as circular. Many KU band satellites have a C-band side. C-band dishes or the BUD dishes -stands for big ugly dish. Most are of the black mesh type others can be solid but all are big compared to the pancake style of commercial companyies. If you go to Lyngsat and look up american satellites you can see what type they are and they are color coded for their type. Your reciever can be used with all three types of LNB's. Hope this helps you.

Check fta list dot com

Check on the web for lots of sites with a list of the channels available for free at this time. Spike is not available for free now. For Spanish channels Satmex has alot look on Lyngsat for more info.
