VS has not been down for 9 months on dn. VS is not the only receiver that is down with standalone.

Joe12,Viewsats are not the only company that does not have free TV. When you purchased your Viewsat receiver were you promised free TV. I will answer that question for you with a resounding NO.
Will the receiver do as was advertised when you purchased it. I again will answer that question with a resounding YES. The receivers are not dead and they will receive Over The Air transmissions that are free and do not belong to any providers such as DN or DTV. You can still receive many channels with the Viewsat receiver if you really want too, but if you expect to receive free provider TV with the Viewsat receivers at this time then you will have to wait to see when and if the receiver will ever work again. Anyone who is a true hobbyist will have a subscription to the providers anyway and this way they are still able to watch TV. Now at this time the only way anyone can still receive the Providers signals without paying is to use a card sharing system like SV, CNX, NFUSION, or KBOX too name a few (I personally think this is a very dangerous way to go because your personal information is now available to the man.)
