august 1 changes to HD re vs900

I was about to buy 2 vs9000's mid july the seller told me to wait til after aug 1 because dish would be making some sort of change to the hd stuff and that to be sure the 9000 would still be ok w/the changes...to wait til after.

Has anyone heard of this? Is the 9000hd box still a good choice for a hd fta...or is there another that would be a better choice?

thanx

fullspeed

yes it is still a great choice...the changes were mostly new channels, channels moved around, and new packages for subscribers...nothing to do with not having the box work properly.

DN has added some 1080p vod channels that we are not yet recieving with a vs9000 or as far as I know any other FTA reciever. I hope it will just be a software fix but to early to tell at this point.
all other channels functioning properly.

DN HD channel tests and changes will be continuing thru all of August, likely nothing nailed down until September or so.

One group of sats being changed is the eastern set 61.5/72/77, and 2nd group is the midwestern set 105/110/118.7/119/129, and also likely changes to 148. From what I've read, you will get pretty well the same sets of HD channels from either east or midwest group.

one more question b4 i order the 9000 box.....what dish do i need. an installer told me that they are only setting up dish 1000.4 dishes now. What sats do i need for the hd channels....he says that 129 has the original hd channels, but that there is another bird carrying the majority of them how...and i cannot rem what it is. ...so 110.119.129, or 110.119. and some other bird....and which dish will work best....

btw. located in texas

not sure what a 1000.4 is. I am runnging great on my 9000 with a 1000.2 dish. Most HD channels are on 129, just a couple on 110 and 119. I think the new shift is mirroring the HD channels and 148 and 61.5, but I dont think there is any additional HD channels on those, just the international. I think u should get all HD with a 1000.2 dish.

You might try this link. I asked the very question you are. Here is some of the feedback I got. I ended up getting the Sonicview. But like everything... its just preverence.

I believe the current 1000.(whatever) dishes have 110/118.7/119/129.

61.5 has a similiar channel lineup to 129, many HD channels on both.
110 has several HD PPV channels.
118.7 has several HD local channels.
119 has no HD channels.
148 has a few HD local channels.

Go to www dot dishuser dot org to see what is on which sat.

They (DN) is apparently replacing 129 with a newer sat later this year to solve its weak signal in some areas, and also its wobble that causes signal dropouts.

Yes, a 1000 picking up the 4 sats I mentioned will get most of what you are looking for.
