Work around for TiVo Series 2?

I have TiVo series 2 box and looking for workaround to avoid DVR monthly fees. Your help is greatly appreciated and thanks for your input.

For the standalone series 2 boxes that are fed with a cable box or use the built-in tuner,don't let the tivo phone home.When the sub runs out you can still use it to record movies but eventually the tivo clock will drift making timer recordings useless.The sat dtv/tivo combo units can't be hacked as far as I know.The standalone boxes I bought cheap I stripped for the hardrives to use in a pc.
