Almost all blowers have three speads but are manually wired for only one at a time. They are commonly wired for medium speed. High speed cools faster, saves electricity but removes less moister. Low speed runs quieter and removes more moister.

Here in Florida most A/C guys just set it for medium due to the high humidity. In most blowers it's just a matter of changing a jumper wire coming of the fan motor (L2 wire side). You can also add a switch that will allow you to manually change speeds without opening the blower each time. My rentals and my home I set on medium because I don't want any mold problems.

motor was ordered and wont be in until today. then its going to be mid week before it can be installed. looker do you happen to know what type of swith and wiring config to use all 3 speeds?

Oly I know you choose either of the three speeds manually by moving the jumper in the blower. I know they make switches but I have never used one. It will be a low voltage switch connected to the fan motor (3 prongs).

My buddy who taught me the little I know about AC systems is on a cruise but I will look and see what I can find to give you an idea. There should be 2 ways to control the speed with a switch. One is having a thermostat that has the option or when you install the switch it has some type of rotary knob (I'm not sure).

Being the cheap landlord that I am I just take a few screws off the blower cover and move the jumper to the one I want (a 5 minute job). I'm will look and see what I can find and I if I find something I will post it here.

Here is a pdf I found on the web that explains it is simple terms. You may want to ask the installer when he comes if he does side work or can tell you where you can get a switch from. I'm courious what you find out.
